In 1999 Mark Spybey was asked to contribute a painting to the Small Worlds exhibition at Mark Pilon’s Moon Base Gallery in Gastown, Vancouver BC. Mark Pilon did the artwork for the first two DVOA and Download releases and later, may years later, did the sleeve for the DVOA vinyl release, ‘The Silent Wing’. Spybey also created a 60 minute looped-tape of music to be played at the opening of the exhibition. He later went on to include a 15 minute version of this on the Four Ways of Saying H30 cd for HushHush Records. This is an extreme recording, it’s never loud, it’s never noisy but it demands a great deal from the listener or it doesn’t. You will either love or hate this. For some, it’s a journey, for others a nightmare. It is comprised of one looped trumpet, with glitch fragments and a drone. The recording uses slow and subtle techniques to blur and fragment the loop, ever so slowly, over the course of 60 minutes. In order to be able to upload this, we have had to split the tracks into two 30 minute segments. This is the very first time that this recording has been released in this way and we’re offering this for a minimum of $5 USD. You can pay more if you like!
